Tips for the Busy Mom

Isn't "busy mom" an oxy-moron?

By Melisa Canizales March 7, 2012
Lately I have been looking a lot more like the Mom in the photo then the one in my head.  You know the one...good old June Cleaver.  Okay, so she was on TV and had producers and set designers and actors for children and a husband.

Then there is reality, and gymnastics and baseball and softball and art lessons and work.  Some days I know it feels like the demands are growing and the hours are shrinking.  All of this activity pushed me to find smarter better ways to stay on top of things.  I have always carried a day planner.  But the problem was I carried a spiral for school, a spiral for meetings, one for grocery lists and if I was out and only had the grocery spiral then you might find my PTA notes in the freezer section.  (Please tell me this sounds familiar!)  Knowing there had to be a better way I found some GREAT online apps and websites that have made my life a little easier.  Hopefully you will be able to use 1 or 2 to get a few hours back in your day!

iPad and iPhone Apps

Yes I LOVE my iPad.  Because I work a day job, run Macaroni Kid and have 5 children my iPad is my best friend.  Here are a few of my favorite apps:

Notability: Notability is a GREAT note taking app.  Why I love it: Notability has a built in microphone that can record entire meetings so you never miss a detail.  It allows you to create and color code files, import photos, type or write notes and save them all  to your icloud or drop box file.

Xpense Trkr: Break up your expenses, track where you are spending what, create multiple folders for work, home, etc.

Free Prayer Journal: Type your prayers in, track the results, and break them up by subject and topic.  You can also apply a pass code to keep people out.

Trip It: Travel Organizer.  Track all your travel emails, confirmation codes and more in one place.

Bill Minder: Collect all your bills, organize them by due date and set reminders so you never miss an important bill again.

Card King (for Android) -  Remembers all of your loyalty card information for you scan it at checkout.

Websites:

Cozi: This is a free and fun family calendar app.  You can save it and share it with other family members, friends or co-workers.

Remember the Milk: Create Grocery Lists, To Do Lists and More and Share them with your iPhone or iPad apps.

unclutterer.com: Daily tips how to organize your home and office.

Pinterest: Yes Pinterest!!  Check out the printables site on our Pinterest column today or just search Organize on Pinterest and you will be amazed by what you find!
